The foal of Pézenas was officially acknowledged in 2005 as part of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Rooted for nearly 800 years in Pézenas tradition, the Foal is the totem animal of the town. It was written that "Louis VIII had a mare that he loved among all. Falling ill and left in the stables of the governor's castle, Louis VIII thought it would die... On his return he discovered with great joy that the mare had given birth to a foal that was shown to him with the head adorned with ribbons..." Louis VIII asked the consuls to perpetuate the memory and to built a wooden foal in order to make it parade during the public celebrations of the town since 1226. To discover it, let's meet at the following address: "impasse de l'oratoire" in the foal's headquarters accompanied by musical performances. On the same day enjoy the photo exhibition..
